ANNUAL FUND 2010-2011: SUSTAIN THE EXCELLENCE

The Annual Fund is the first, and most important, financial campaign for St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. SJECS’s designation as a “National School of Excellence” is all the more remarkable given that it costs up to $2000 per child, over and above tuition, to educate our students. This education extends beyond traditional academics and cultivates a Catholic identity within our children and community.

In comparison to other private schools in the Atlanta metropolitan area, SJECS maintains the lowest tuition rates for its students and families. However, tuition alone can not cover all costs associated with the operations of this dynamic institution, e.g., new books for the library, new software for the technology program, physical upgrades to school grounds and equipment, extracurricular activities, etc. In order to sustain the SJECS experience, every member of the SJECS family, including administrators, faculty and staff, parents, and our extended family are expected to lend financial support.

For the 2010-2011 Annual Fund, the SJECS Development Committee has established a monetary goal of $40,000 and a parental participation rate of 65%. These goals reflect the outgrowth of support and generosity realized the last two years:

School Year
Amount Donated
Percentage of Parental Participation
2008/2009 Annual Fund
$31,460
53%
2009/2010 Annual Fund
$35,225
58%
2010/2011 Annual Fund
$40,000
65%

In order to achieve these goals, we are administering the Annual Fund in four phases:

Phase 1: August 1 – August 30   All SJECS faculty, administrators, staff, and Committee/Council members will contribute to the Annual Fund. The contribution amount and percentage of participation will be made public by early September. A formal event recognizing Annual Fund Leadership Families or Individuals will be held on August 28th.

Phase 2: September 1 – October 31    All SJECS student families, grandparents, and alumni will contribute to the Annual Fund. Selected Committee and Council members will discuss the Annual Fund with these groups and individuals.

Phase 3: November 1 – November 30    All students and classes will participate in the Annual Fund as a way to honor the “Season of Giving.” The final Annual Fund totals for donations and participation levels will be announced before the Christmas break.

DONATION LEVELS   The Archdiocese defines an appropriate contribution to the Annual Fund as 10% of one’s annual tuition payment for one child. For SJECS families, this translates to $585 for Catholic families and $692 for non-Catholic families. (These figures correspond to the “missing” July tuition payment.) A minimum contribution to the Annual Fund of $50 per family is slightly less than 1% of the annual tuition payment.
