Summer Literacy Opportunities

Click here for the summer reading lists.

Experts agree that children who read during the summer months gain reading skills while those who do not often slide backwards (RIF).  Don’t let your child experience the “summer slide”!  Keep them reading all summer.  Listed below are many FUN literacy opportunities for June and July. Most of them are FREE, too.

1.  Visit Your Local Library  - "On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!"  is the theme for 2016.

Local public libraries promote summer reading by offering reading logs, bookmarks and stickers, and by hosting activities such as storytimes and puppet shows. Other special events include arts and crafts programs and magic shows.  Click on your county to view the opportunities at the branch nearest you.
