Service Hours
Every family gives a minimum of 25 service hours in support of St. John School each year. They serve as room parents, coaches, committee members, field day helpers, office helpers, and so much more.  
All volunteers working with children will need to follow the volunteer application procedures.  
  • Step 1 - Complete and sign a volunteer inquiry form (found here or in the school office).  Return the form to Ms. Carlson in the school office.
  • Step 2 - Complete the workflow in the online system sent to you via email by Ms. Carlson (Volunteer Application, Sterling Background Check Consent Form, Safe Environment Acknowledgement of Receipt and Compliance Forms).   
  • Step 3 - Read all Safe Environment Policies of the Archdiocese of Atlanta
  • Step 4 - Register for a free VIRTUS training and attend the session.  To sign up for a free training session near you click hereIf you have already attended a VIRTUS training through your parish, please let Ms. Carlson know so she may verify this in the database. 
  • Step 5 - Once the school has confirmation of your participation in a live VIRTUS training and evidence of a clear background check, you are ready to be a volunteer!  Thank you for your commitment to the safety of our children.

Parental Involvement on School Boards and Committees
Parents can serve on committees of the following Boards and hold leadership positions at the school:
The Advisory Council reviews and discusses programs in light of the administrative vision for the school, helps to strengthen the relationship of the school to feeder parishes, and offers advice in the operation and maintenance of the school. Advisory Council sub-committees follow:
 
Mission Effectiveness Committee guides input and implentation of strategic planning; ensures school programs, goals and activities maintain a high level of Catholic identity.
The Finance Committee assissts in the development of the annual budget for review by the Advisory Board and provides sttrategic vision related to long-range financial planning.
The Development & Marketing Committee creates effective marketing efforts that center around advancing the brand of SJE. This committee also provides support to the development director in order to execute successful fundraising and marketing efforts.
The Facilities Committee plans for and makes reccommendations concerning facilities and maintenance for the entire campus.  This committee also ensures all safety and security processes are in place, in working order, and in compliance with GEMA regulations.
The Technology Committee  promotes increased awareness and utilization of various academic and administrative technologies and explores technologies which enhance student learning, facilitate instruction and strengthen administrative functions. This committee also makes recommendations concerning acquisition, implementation, maintenance and upgrading of technologies in order to maintain and secure a robust infrastructure.
The Home & School Association consists of parents who help build community by sponsoring fun events such as movie nights, and educational speakers.  The Board also sponsors fund-raising events such as the Back to School BashRace for Education Run/Walk, SJE Jubilee, Night of Giving, and more. Home & School Association sub-committees follow:
