Norma Buckley, Advisory Council Chair and Capital Campaign Co-Chair

Norma Casal Buckley is owner and manager of Buckley Investments, LLC, a residential real estate company, buying, selling, leasing and financing homes in the south-metro Atlanta area.  Norma is a graduate of the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and the Duke University School of Law.  A member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1993, Norma began her career at Powell, Goldstein (now Bryan Cave, LLP ) and moved on to non-profit real estate work for nearly a decade at The Trust for Public Land working primarily on the Ocmulgee Heritage Greenway and the Chattahoochee River Land Protection Campaign.  It was the birth of her oldest son that led Norma to found her own real estate company where she cherishes the ability to balance work with being mother to Noah, age 11, Elijah, age 8, Dahlia, age 7 and wife to Shawn Buckley.   Norma was named One of 10 Outstanding Atlantans in 1997 and is a 2000 graduate of Leadership Atlanta.  Together with volunteer opportunities at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, Norma is an active volunteer at the Bedford School for learning differences and at her parish of St. Philip Benizi where she co-coordinates Children’s Ministry of the Word. 

 

Anthony Cochran, P.E., Facilities Committee CHair

Anthony is a native of Tampa, Florida. He completed a dual-degree program which earned him a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Bethune-Cookman University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech with major courses in Transportation Engineering.

Mr. Cochran has over 20 years of experience in the civil design and construction industry. The majority of this work experience is comprised of civil aviation design projects for Capital Improvement Projects at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and other commercial service airports in the southeast United States. In his current position as Regional Civil Engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airports Division – Southern Region, Mr. Cochran is the primary contact for policy and implementation of the Runway Safety Area Improvement Program for all certificated airports in the southeast.  In addition he serves as the Division’s contract for construction standards and airspace matters to achieve the goals of the FAA's national strategic plan. He is a licensed professional engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He also serves as a counselor/volunteer for the Aviation and Space Education (AVSED) Outreach Program for career days at various schools in Metro Atlanta to inform young people about various career opportunities within the FAA. 

He currently serves on the Bethune-Cookman University Associate Trustee’s Board and he is an active member of the Pi Gamma Lambda Chapter (Clayton County, Georgia) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. As an active member of St. Peter AME Church, he serves on the Usher Board and the Lay Members Organization. Anthony is married to Charisse Walker-Cochran, and they reside in Jonesboro, Georgia with their daughter Ariona Symone Cochran.

 

Karen Richard-Lee, Development Committee Chair

Karen has over 30 years of experience in public health policy, program implementation and management.  She is currently a Supervisory Public Health Analyst with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Diabetes Translation, Office of Program and Policy Information.  In this role she serves as the lead resource for the Division’s budget formulation, performance measurement, partnership development and strategic planning.  She provides day-to-day guidance and direction to a team of Public Health Analysts who support the mission and vision of the organization. 

In her spare time, Karen enjoys spending time with her family.  Current and previous volunteer activities include, St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, St. Francis House, St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church and Clark Howard’s Community Action Center.

 

Leslie Sudbury-Haydel- Mission Effectiveness

Leslie is originally from South Bend, IN and received her BA in Political Science from Xavier University of Louisiana. She then received her Juris Doctorate from Notre Dame Law School and practiced primarily in the areas of Workers Compensation Insurance Defense and EEOC in NC. Previous board experience includes the Advisory Council to the North Carolina Industrial Commission and as a founding board member of the Parent Coalition for Excellence also in NC. Leslie also served as Apex Sports Authority Pop Warner Little Scholars Scholastic Coordinator. She is a member of the Xavier University Alumni Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

 

Dr. Leo Ovadje, Mission Effectiveness Co-Chair

Dr. Leo Ovadje is founder of Caritas Medical Center, a medical practice focused on management of kidney diseases and hypertension. Originally from Nigeria, he did his residency in Internal Medicine at St Barnabas hospital, Bronx, NY an affiliate hospital of New York Hospital-Cornel medical center. He then went on to do his fellowship in Kidney diseases (Nephrology) and Hypertension at the University of South Florida, Tampa Florida. He practiced Nephrology in Jackson, TN and then Macon, GA before relocating to Henry county in 2006 and starting the practice which has now grown to 3 Physicians and a Nurse Practitioner.

He is a member of the American college of Physicians, American society of Nephrology, Renal Physicians Association and the National kidney foundation. He and members of his practice participate in the Kidney walk -an annual fundraiser and health awareness event sponsored by the NKF.

Dr Ovadje is a member of the Dept of Medicine review committee at Southern Regional medical center and Utilization management committee at Piedmont Henry hospital. He also gives wellness talks at health fairs, community and church events to raise awareness of kidney diseases and Hypertension and the importance of early screening.

When he is not taking care of Patients, He spends time with his wife and 4 children (who are all at SJE) enjoying the outdoors. They are members of St James Catholic church in McDonough, GA.

 

Anthony Hylton, Finance Committee

Anthony is a graduate of the Sloan School of Management and Civil Engineering departments at MIT.  He has 20 years' of management experience in the internet security and telecommunications industries.  Anthony is a certified Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute and is responsible for leading projects to launch broadband products and services for AT&T. 

Anthony is married to Michelle Moore Hylton and they reside in Southwest Atlanta with their daughter Nina Hylton and son Evan Hylton.  Anthony is a proud member of Our Lady of Lourdes church since 2002.

 

Christa Castile- Mission Effectiveness

Christa Castile has a long standing history with St. John the Evangelist School. Her grandparents, John and Betsy were parishioners of the church and helped build the school in 1954. Her father, John Patrick attended through eighth grade. Christa graduated from St. John’s in 1994 with three brothers following her. Her mother, Ginger, has worked at the school for many years. Now, the fourth generation of St. John’s affiliates are attending in the third and first grades!

Christa graduated from Berry College where she earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education and her masters in middle grades science education. She has taught the fourth and fifth grades for six years in Cartersville and Rome, Georgia. She was named the Rome News Tribune Star Teacher in 2005. Christa also taught fourth and fifth grade at St. John’s school during the 2013-2014 school year.

Christa is an active member of St. Philip Benizi, where she enjoys teaching vacation bible school, volunteering in the pro-life ministry as well as the Sponsor Couple program for engaged couples, which she does with her husband. The couple has four children, all of which she hopes will attend St. John’s!

 

George Harris, Mission Effectiveness

George Harris is a retired Army Major and Principal of Harris & Associates Consulting. Harris & Associates is a boutique consulting firm specializing in enterprise risk management and quality.  George spent 13 years in the United States Army as an officer commissioned in the Infantry. As an Officer, George served numerous roles from operations to logistics and finance including a tour in Afghanistan. George also amassed 18 years of enterprise risk management and quality experience from his military experience as well as work at GE Capital, Penske Truck Leasing and Recall Total Information Management.

George holds an MBA from Troy University as well a postgraduate studies from Emory University in Sustainability and Enterprise Risk Management from New York University (NYU). He has also conducted research and published scholarly works on operations efficiency and sustainability.

George has an extensive volunteer background including service to the Red Cross, the Birmingham Police Academy, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the National Bone Marrow Registry (Be the Match), the Adult Wish Foundation, Man vs. Diabetes, Morehouse School of Medicine and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Most notably, George was named volunteer of the year in 2013 by LLS-Georgia Chapter. George is also a 2014 graduate of the United Way's VIP program which strives to create better Non-Profit Boards. He is a Board Member of the Homeland Security Foundation of America and Man vs. Diabetes.

George is married to Cathy Kennedy Harris and has two (2) children (Brianna, 13 and Gabrielle, 11) who attend SJE. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc and attends St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
